Testing Robin Red in Base Mixes and Pellets

Haith's Robin Red Original

Robin Red remains one of the most widely used carp bait ingredients, with a long track record in both boilie and groundbait production. This trial highlights its performance across different bait formats and application methods.

Formulation and Pellet Trial

For this trial, the bait was built using coarse birdfood (Red Factor) as the main part of the mix, with Robin Red at 10% inclusion. A fruit flavour and sweetener were added to support carp attraction.

The mix was produced as 15 × 12 mm barrels by a commercial roller, with 30 kg prepared for the trial. Supporting materials included a Robin Red-based groundbait (SuperRed) mixed 50/50 with oat groats, and a paste made from ground SuperRed to give a fast release of attraction around the hookbait.

Observed Performance

Application Methods

  • Bait boats: Allow accurate placement of pellets and groundbait together
  • Boiled baits: A light coating of Liquid flavour can improve early attraction
  • Paste: Releases attraction quickly as there is no outer skin
  • Balanced hookbaits: Improve Presentation and bait movement
  • PVA mesh bags: Keep the rig stable and add attraction close to the hookbait
  • Paste balls: Can be introduced to support feeding in the baited area
  • Robin Red performs consistently in pellets, groundbait, and paste.

  • Birdfood-based mixes act as an effective carrier for attraction

  • Flavour and sweetener levels can be adjusted to suit different waters

  • Using more than one bait format can improve overall feeding response

This trial shows how Robin Red can be used across multiple bait types to deliver reliable results. It gives bait manufacturers a flexible option when developing products for different conditions and feeding patterns.
